A letter to parents: your child and AI
Dear parents, your child already lives in a world with AI — in homework, search, even chat. Banning it usually just pushes it out of sight. At school we are teaching students to use AI thinkingly: doubt first, verify, protect personal data, and be honest about what they used. These four small habits carry that learning home.
One question a day
Ask: "Did you use AI today? What did it say? Did you believe it?" Make AI a dinner-table topic, not a secret.
Doubt it together
Now and then, ask AI something your family knows well (e.g. about your hometown) and spot its mistakes together — let your child see that fluent does not mean true.
Think first, ask second
Encourage your child to write their own idea first, then use AI to compare or improve. Copying AI only teaches copying.
Protect personal data
Remind your child never to give any AI tool their name, school, address or photos.
AI won't replace your child's thinking — unless we let it. Thank you for working with the school to teach your child that AI is a tool for thinking, not a source of answers.
